Ideas for Kid’s Rooms Designing a children’s room is a little different than designing the rest of your house. In general it’s okay to design more for function by using space saving solutions like bunk beds with stairs but you can be a little more creative than that. Make their bed someplace fun to be. You can do this by giving them something to look at while in bed.
Decorate the ceiling with something they like looking at. Stars were popular when I was a kid but they are kind of old now. Those little plastic, glow in the dark stars can be forgotten about. It’s time to step up our game and pull out some glow in the dark paint. With a little artistic skill you can even paint a whole mural on the ceiling that would otherwise be a blank space.
Get bunk beds with a trundle. I know it seem stereotypical but they are a great space saving solution and they are fun. I had lots of fun times playing on my bunk beds when I was a kid but that may be because I love climbing. Nowadays you can find designs that are more interesting and that have a theme your kids will love. Use the top bunk as a canopy and create an enclosed, fort for your kids. The will love it and it’s a great space for the imagination to run wild.
Fill the room with activities. If you have the space you can even put in things like small slides and seesaws. I have even seen some people that attached a slide to a set of cheap bunkbeds and used that as a cool way to get out of bed.
Paint the walls fun colors and let the kids help. Every kid has a favorite show, movie, dinosaur, car or animal.
Incorporate that into their room as a design element. If you look online you can find a lot of wall stickers that come in different themes and designs. There are even some paces that you can get them custom printed with your own pictures.
These are just a few suggestions to try and jazz up a kid’s room. A kid’s room should be their little island away from the rest of the world so make it someplace they can escape and imagine their own adventures.
